President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended heartfelt Republic Day greetings to the people of the Maldives in a post shared on social media. In marking the occasion, President Dr Muizzu offered warm felicitations to all Maldivian citizens and shared a meaningful message from his late father, Sheikh Hussain Abdul Rahman, on the principles of governance.
The message underscored that true governance prioritises the well-being of citizens, fulfils essential responsibilities, and is rooted in integrity for the betterment of society. President Dr. Muizzu’s post highlighted his commitment to these values, reinforcing his administration’s focus on people-centred governance.
Republic Day, observed annually on 11 November, commemorates the Maldives’ transition to a democratic republic for the second time in its history. After an initial period of republican governance, the Maldives returned to monarchy rule for 14 years before once again re-establishing a democratic republic on 11 November 1968. This day remains a symbol of the Maldives’ dedication to democratic values and its journey towards self-governance.
