Ministry of Tourism has announced plans to launch a special inspection to identify unauthorised tourist service facilities. The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Tourism Ahmed Nazim Mohamed, while speaking at the Parliament's Committee on Secondary Legislation.
Speaking at the committee, State Minister Ahmed Nazim stated that information pertaining to the authorised tourism facilities were documented with the ministry. However, he highlighted that there are some facilities providing services without permits, and challenges are faced in identifying the facility when complaints are filed against them.
Aiming to address this issue, State Minister Nazim stated that decisions have been made to launch an inspection, in collaboration with Maldives Police Service (MPS). He disclosed that the ministry and MPS have established a committee for this purpose, and had prepared a framework as well.
