President reaffirms commitment to deliver results with speed and enthusiasm

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated his unwavering commitment to ensuring that the government delivers tangible results with enthusiasm and efficiency. The statement was made during a ceremony marking the first anniversary of his administration.

In his address, President Muizzu highlighted the significant progress achieved despite challenges faced at the outset of the administration’s tenure. He noted the successful implementation of key initiatives, such as the launch of the air ambulance service, which has transported 540 patients, and the expansion of healthcare coverage under the universal healthcare insurance scheme, Aasandha. This includes the introduction of coverage for In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and other reproductive health services.

The President also emphasised the establishment of a mental health helpline, which has provided vital support to youth coping with mental health issues. He announced the rollout of a nationwide emergency hotline, 911, designed to simplify emergency responses by consolidating multiple numbers into a single, unified service.

Addressing healthcare further, President Muizzu highlighted efforts to assist Thalassemia patients, noting that 14 state-sponsored patients have been sent abroad for bone marrow transplants within the past year. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to delivering swift and comprehensive care.

On housing, the President outlined measures taken to address the crisis, including relaxations granted to those struggling to pay social housing dues. He announced that the 2025 state budget would prioritise alleviating housing challenges and resolving issues surrounding unaffordable housing loans.

President Muizzu also drew attention to economic advancements, such as the establishment of bunkering services, sea-to-air cargo facilities, and the Development Bank of Maldives. He underscored ongoing decentralisation efforts, including granting uninhabited islands to councils for commercial use and extending administrative services, such as National Identity Card (NID) and passport issuance, to all regions of the country. He pledged to allocate funds for infrastructure projects across the islands and ensure their completion within his tenure.

In the area of education and religious development, President Muizzu reaffirmed his commitment to infrastructure development alongside ideological and religious education. Over the past year, 270 religious speakers have been trained, and unprecedented opportunities for youth engagement in the religious sector have been introduced. Additionally, teacher training programmes have reached record levels, surpassing achievements of the past decade.

President Muizzu concluded by reiterating the administration’s dedication to delivering results swiftly and effectively, ensuring that the government remains responsive to the needs of the Maldivian people.
