Foreign Relations Committee approves Fuwad as Ambassador to Thailand

The parliament's Foreign Relations Committee has approved the nomination of the former President of the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) Fuwad Thoufeeq as the next Ambassador of the Maldives to Thailand.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu decided to appoint Fuwad as the Ambassador to Thailand, and sent his name to the parliament for approval on November 25. The decision follows the expiration of Fuwad's term of office at the ECM. The matter was then forwarded to the Foreign Relations Committee for review, as required under the Foreign Service Act, which mandates parliamentary consent for ambassadorial appointments.

Fuwad Thoufeeq has a long and distinguished history with the ECM. He first joined the commission in 2008 as a member and was appointed as its President in 2009. He served in this capacity until March 2014, after which he resigned. In 2019, Fuwad returned to the commission and has since made significant contributions as its President, earning recognition for his leadership and efforts in overseeing transparent and successful electoral processes.
