Parliament Reviews President's Non-Resident Ambassador Nominees for Five Countries

The Parliament has advanced the nominations submitted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for Maldives' non-resident ambassadors to Brunei, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France, and Australia. On Monday, the parliamentary session saw the Foreign Relations Committee tasked with examining these nominations in detail.

Dr Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed has been proposed as the non-resident high commissioner to Brunei, adding to her current role as high commissioner to Malaysia. Geela Ali has been nominated to serve as the non-resident ambassador to Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Ali is also the ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.

For the position of non-resident ambassador to France, the president has selected Iruthisham Adam, who is presently the high commissioner to the United Kingdom. The nomination of Mohamed Luveiz as the non-resident high commissioner to Australia follows his current appointment as high commissioner to Singapore.

As mandated by the Foreign Service Act, the President must obtain parliamentary approval before appointing ambassadors and high commissioners to the nation's foreign missions. The Foreign Relations Committee will now scrutinise these nominations before they are presented for a vote on the parliamentary floor.
