Parliament Endorses Abdulla Nashid’s Nomination for ACC Vice President

Parliament on Monday endorsed Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) member Abdulla Nashid as the vice president of the commission.

The President on 26 January nominated ACC member Ahmed Nashid to the post of its vice president and forwarded the nomination for Parliament endorsement.

However, the President later backtracked on his decision to nominate ACC member Abdulla Nashid to the post instead of Ahmed Nashid.

Abdulla Nashid’ nomination was endorsed by the Parliament with 69 lawmakers voting in favour during Monday’s sitting.

Under the recent amendments to the Anti Corruption Commission Act, President Dr Muizzu is mandated to appoint the President and Vice President of the ACC out of the five members subject to Parliament endorsement.

Ahmed Nashid along with Abdulla Nashid were appointed to the ACC, after ACC Vice President Abdul Salaam and member Thoha Mohamed had resigned amid serious allegations of corruption and abuse of power.
