The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and Public Service Media (PSM) have decided to work together to promote tourism in the Maldives. The announcement was made at a function held Monday to launch PSM’s programmes for the upcoming Ramadan and 2025.
The agreement established between MMPRC and PSM were signed by their respective heads, PSM’s Managing Director Ibrahim Nasreen and MMPRC’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shiury.
During the event, PSM launched the Maldives’ first destination TV channel, Maldives TV. Maldives TV is a channel dedicated to featuring beautiful sceneries of the Maldives to foreigners and tourists. The channel was launched by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thorig Ibrahim.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Thorig said the government will work with Maldives TV to achieve the tourism target.
"The TV is being launched at a very opportune time, while extensive efforts are underway to promote the destination. This initiative is an added boost to these efforts. Through Maldives TV and featuring the Maldives’ natural beauty through the channel, I am confident that we can achieve this year’s goal of hosting 2.3 million tourists,” the Minister said.
The MMPRC will carry out four main activities with PSM's Maldives TV channel. They are:
* Visit Maldives Book of Records, featuring historically significant events
* Dornier Wreck, featuring submerging an aircraft wreck to develop a dive site
* Burunuboma, a sustainable fishing tournament conducted on a catch and release basis
* Visit Maldives Hackathon, an event held to explore destination marketing solutions
While the government has set ambitious tourism targets for this year, several initiatives will be launched across the globe to promote the Maldives online and offline, including participating in international travel fairs.
