Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel met the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya on Thursday during his ongoing official visit to the neighbouring country.
During the meeting, Minister Dr Khaleel expressed profound gratitude for Sri Lanka’s unwavering support for the Maldives’ development and progress over the decades especially in the field of education and human resource development and hosting a large community of Maldivians in Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“The Prime Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Sri Lanka to work together to strengthen the existing close cooperation between the two countries in multiple areas,” the statement said.
Minister Dr Khaleel is on an official visit to Sri Lanka from 18-21 February at the invitation of H.M. Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka.
In addition to Prime Minister Amarasuriya, Minister Dr Khaleel is set to meet Anura Kumara Disanayake, President of Sri Lanka later Thursday.
On Wednesday, Minister Dr Khaleel and his Sri Lankan counterpart Herath held official talks, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and exploring collaborations.
The Ministry said that Minister Dr Khaleel is also scheduled to meet with the Maldivian community in Sri Lanka and also meet with the private sector of Sri Lanka to explore opportunities to enhance collaboration in various sectors.
