Parliament Endorses Non-Resident Envoys to Five Nations

Parliament has ratified the nominations presented by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for the country's non-resident ambassadors to Brunei, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France, and Australia.

During Monday’s session, Parliament approved these confirmations following a comprehensive review by the Foreign Relations Committee. The committee conducted an examination of the nominations and provided favourable recommendations, which culminated in a successful parliamentary vote.

Dr Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed has been proposed as the non-resident high commissioner to Brunei, in addition to her current role as high commissioner to Malaysia. Geela Ali has been nominated as the non-resident ambassador to Luxembourg and the Netherlands while continuing her duties as ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.

President Dr Muizzu has selected Iruthisham Adam for the position of non-resident ambassador to France. Adam currently serves as high commissioner to the United Kingdom. Mohamed Luveiz has been nominated as the non-resident high commissioner to Australia, complementing his existing appointment as high commissioner to Singapore.

In accordance with the Foreign Service Act, the president is required to secure parliamentary approval prior to appointing ambassadors and high commissioners to the nation's foreign missions.
