ACC Vows Impartial Probe Into Allegations Against Supreme Court Justices

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has assured that it will conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into allegations filed against three Supreme Court judges, emphasising that the commission would not yield to any external influence.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has suspended three Supreme Court Justices, Husnu Al-Suood, Dr Azmiralda Zahir and Mahaz Ali Zahir, in connection with a case being investigated by commission.

The ACC said in a statement that it is the its legal responsibility to investigate any act of corruption submitted to the commission under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, without exception. The ACC will continue to investigate all cases under the powers conferred to the commission by the laws and regulations of the criminal justice system as per Article 202 of the Constitution, and Articles 21 and 22 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, the statement read.

Meanwhile, the Parliament on Wednesday passed the an amendment to the Judicature Act, which seeks to reduce the number of Supreme Court justices from seven to five.
