Visit Maldives Hackathon Officially Launched, Now Open for Registration

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation Limited (MMPRC) has officially launched the Visit Maldives Hackathon in partnership with Dhiraagu, SparkHub LLP, Public Service Media (PSM), Business Centre Corporation (BCC), Ministry of Tourism and Environment, and National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT).

The hackathon, aimed at both local and international participants aged 18 and above, was launched on 27 February 2025 at Dhiraagu Head Office by the Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim. This hackathon, now open for registration, is mainly targeted to individuals with an interest in combining technology and sustainability in the tourism industry.

The Visit Maldives Hackathon is a 48-hour long event designed to address the key challenges in the Maldivian tourism industry through innovative, technology-driven solutions. It lines up with MMPRC’s commitment to enhance sustainable tourism while amplifying cutting-edge technologies for positive traveller experiences and operational efficiency.

Information sessions for participants will be held on 13 March, 19 March, and 7 April. Participants are to submit their proposals by 11 April. Proposal evaluations will take place the day after the submission deadline, and the proposals selected for the Hackathon will be announced on 13 April. The event itself will be held from 18 to 20 April.

Speaking at the official launch ceremony, Tourism Minister Thoriq Ibrahim expressed confidence that the innovative ideas developed at the hackathon could transform the tourism industry by enhancing guest experiences, industry management and preserving the natural environment.

MMPRC’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shiuree also addressed at the launching ceremony, noting that technology-driven solutions could contribute to effectively addressing tourism-related challenges.

MMPRC has a range of constructive activities in the pipeline to promote Maldives for 2025. The Corporation expressed its commitment to working closely with industry stakeholders to support the Maldives tourism industry. MMPRC said it will continue facilitating innovation, public-private collaboration, and sustainable growth of Maldives tourism through global promotion and innovative events.
