Foakaidhoo Island Council decided on Friday to award a special prize to the future winners of Public Service Media’s “Emme Aligadha Thari” Quran Recitation Competition after participants from Shaviyani Atoll won the previous three editions of the competition.
Forakaidhoo council said it would give an Umrah pilgrimage tour if a contestant from the island wins the competition in the future and that the council will award prize money of MVR10,000 if a participant from Shaviyani Atoll wins the competition. Adam Naseem, winner of this years competition received a hero’s welcome from his home island with Foakaidhoo island of Shaviyani Atoll giving a red-carpet welcome.
“Dhivehi Raahjeyge Emme Aligadha Thari” is a special programme presented during the month of Ramadan, by PSM, with the aim of promoting recitation of the holy Quran. The winners of the programmes in the previous two years were also from Shaviyani Atoll, and were present in Foakaidhoo Island to congratulate the winner of this year’s programme.
The programme was sponsored this year by Sharia-compliant insurance provider Ayady Takaful. This was the fourth edition of the programme with each of the previous three winners earning MVR100,000 in prize money.
This year’s edition offered valuable prizes, including the prize money of half a million Rufiyaa and a full scholarship from Islamic University of the Maldives to the winners, and Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage tours.
