A majority of cases concluded in the first quarter of this year involved abuse of power, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) says.
Statistics released by ACC showed that it had concluded a total of 213 cases in the first three months of 2016, of which 108 cases involved abuse of authority for personal gain.
143 such cases were concluded during the corresponding period last year, the report said. Violations of laws and regulations accounted for the second most common cases that were concluded during the first quarter of this year while cases involving unlawful gains came in third, it said.
According to ACC, 28 cases involving unlawful gains were concluded during the first three months of this year. Looking at the cases filed with the Commission, some were dismissed due to insufficient evidence and information.
Likewise, a sum of 166 cases that were concluded after the evaluation process of preliminary stage and 45 cases concluded after investigation process were dismissed, ACC further said.
