The Civil Court on Monday issued a sharp rebuke of the Attorney General's criticism of a court order which barred former employees of Haveeru Daily from working at any other media organisation for two years.
A statement issued by the court said "the Attorney General does not have the authority to annul or disregard court decisions."
It followed a statement by the Attorney General’s Office saying the Civil Court’s ruling issued last week barring former employees of Haveeru Daily from working at any other media organisation or media-related business for 2 years was invalid.
The court called on the Attorney General to stop undermining its ruling and damaging the public trust in the court.
The statement also warned that the court would not hesitate to bring contempt charges against the Attorney General if he continued to do so.
The statement comes after the Attorney General's Office said it would appeal the court order against former employees of Haveeru Daily.
