United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday published a report titled “Maldives Population Dynamics: Policy Prospects for Human Growth and Opportunity”.
The report was officially released by Finance Minister Ahmed Munawr and Education Minister Dr Aishath Shiham during “Fahi Oyivaru” progamme held at Maldives National University’s auditorium, coinciding with World Population Day.
The report provides a general perspective on the results of the 2014 census of Maldives.
UNFPA says the analytical findings of this report highlight a range of issues providing essential policy recommendations for policy makers and international agencies.
Professor John F. May, who compiled the report, said it provides a policy roadmap for the Maldives in moving forward.
He added that it sheds light on the patterns and trends which the census revealed. Professor May expressed confidence that the report spurs a national dialogue on population and development issues which results in a new national development plan that helps to prioritise investment in Maldives’ younger generation and demographic dividend as well as focusing on gender equality and managing migration.
