The Ministry of Tourism has reported over 700,000 tourist arrivals thus far this year.
According to the Ministry, a total of 723,376 tourists visited Maldives as of 13 April. This is a significant increase compared to the same period last year, when 682,264 arrivals were recorded. On average, over 7,000 tourists are currently arriving in the Maldives daily.
So far in April alone, 90,958 tourists have visited the Maldives, marking an increase of 16.2 percent compared to the same period last year. In 2024, 78,260 tourists during the same period.
The current top source markets for Maldives tourism are:
* China - 80,190 arrivals
* UK - 79,128 arrivals
* Russia - 75,402 arrivals
* Italy - 63,177 arrivals
* Germany - 54,275 arrivals
The majority of tourists, accounting for 69.9 percent, spent their holidays in resorts, while 24.5 percent opted for guesthouses. Three percent of tourists stayed in hotels while 2.5 percent stayed on liveaboard safaris.
While more than 200,000 tourists visited the Maldives during the first two months of this year, the government aims to attract 2.3 million tourists by the end of this year. To achieve this goal, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has been actively promoting the Maldivian as a luxury destination. Marketing efforts include partnering with renowned football clubs, cricket teams and celebrities to promote the Maldivian brand.
