Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has announced the appointment of Robert “Fly” Navarro, internationally acclaimed sport fishing expert and founder of Fly Zone Fishing, as the official Global Ambassador for Maldives Sport Fishing Tourism.
According to the MMPRC, this partnership highlights the Maldives’ rising profile as a top-tier destination for anglers worldwide.
Fly Navarro brings over 30 years of experience in the sport fishing industry, having traveled to six continents and participated in some of the most prestigious tournaments across the globe.
As founder of Fly Zone Fishing and co-creator of the Blue Marlin World Cup, the only global blue marlin tournament, Navarro has consistently demonstrated a unique ability to unite anglers and audiences through innovative media and event production.
“His extensive expertise and passion make him the perfect figure to spotlight the Maldives’ untapped potential on the global sport fishing map,” MMPRC said.
To kick off this collaboration, Fly Navarro will travel to the Maldives to attend and support the Burunuboma Global Sport Fishing Tournament, taking place from 2-4 May. The tournament will bring together top anglers from around the world to the pristine waters of the Maldives, targeting species such as marlin, sailfish, and other big game fish.
As the Maldives strengthens its commitment to sustainable marine tourism and conservation, Fly Navarro will also work closely with local partners to promote best practices in responsible fishing, MMPRC added.
“It is an absolute honour to represent the Maldives on the world stage,” Navarro said.
“The Maldives offers some of the most stunning marine environments anywhere on Earth, and its potential as a sport fishing destination is second to none. I’m excited to help share that with the world.”
As Global Ambassador, Fly Navarro will help elevate the visibility of the Maldives in the sport fishing and maritime tourism industries through strategic media outreach, international partnerships, and on-the-ground initiatives, MMPRC said, adding that his appointment marks a pivotal moment in the Maldives’ mission to become a global leader in sustainable sport fishing tourism.
