Advanced Wound Care Clinic Opens at Hulhumale’ Hospital

An Advanced Wound Care Clinic has been officially opened at Hulhumale’ Hospital.

The clinic was inaugurated by the Chief Operating Officer of Male’ City Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem at a ceremony held at Hulhumale’ Hospital on Thursday.

Speaking at the ceremony, CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem highlighted the importance of establishing such a clinic in an area with a rapidly growing population such as Hulhumale’, and described the development as a step forward. While the Hulhumale’ Hospital already provides wound treatment services, the hospital has treated over 5,000 wounds so far this year, he noted.

Abdul Razzaq noted that the new clinic, equipped with modern facilities, will operate under a dedicated management system.

Speaking to the media following the ceremony, the Maldives’ main government hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH)’s Consultant Sub-Specialist in Plastic Surgery Dr Mohamed Waheed said prior to the clinic’s opening, Hulhumale’ residents had to travel to Male’ to for specialised wound treatment. However, the opening of the clinic has made treatment more accessible to Hulhumale’ residents, he noted.

"A person with a harmonic foot wound, for instance, used to have to travel far to receive treatment. IGMH currently offers wound care clinic twice a week. The availability of this service in Hulhumale’ Hospital will be a great convenience for Hulhumale’ residents," Dr Waheed said.

Chronic wound patients include individuals with diabetes, who typically experience delayed healing of wounds. Those recovering from serious accidents also sometimes have wounds that require long-term care. People who have been bedridden for a long period also require wound treatment in some cases.

Previously, patients had to make an appointment every time they required wound treatment services from Hulhumale’ Hospital. However, with the opening of the Advanced Wound Care Clinic, patients will be registered with the clinic and the clinic will arrange the treatment plan and appointment schedules accordingly.

A total of 5,076 people have been treated for wounds at Hulhumale’ Hospital so far this year.
