President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), vowing to bolster its resources and infrastructure in a bid to elevate its academic stature. Speaking at the university's graduation ceremony as the guest of honour, he underscored IUM's critical role in shaping future generations and reiterated his government’s dedication to its continued development.
Among the most pressing efforts, he noted, is the long-delayed 'Sanabil' project—a Waqf-funded building financed through Sukuk sales. The project has remained incomplete for years, but he pledged to expedite its completion, ensuring its intended contribution to the university's growth. He also announced plans to extend IUM's presence to the outer atolls, broadening the institution's reach and accessibility across the country.
Efforts to expand infrastructure also include the allocation of land in Hulhumalé for the construction of a new IUM building. "A large plot of land has now been allocated in Hulhumalé for the construction of the new IUM building. Shaping the future of IUM is a goal. I will happily continue the work of increasing space and resources," he stated.
Turning his attention to the graduating students, President Dr Muizzu highlighted their responsibilities as educated members of society. He also urged them to cultivate a community founded on strong principles and virtue, encouraging them to uphold ethical values and actively counter negative influences within society.
