The registration deadline for Maldives Expo 2025, a flagship event designed to celebrate culture, creativity, innovation, entertainment, and entrepreneurship, has been extended, according to the Business Centre Corporation (BCC). Heralded as the largest exhibition of its kind ever organised in the country, the new registration deadline has been set for 10 May.
This decision, according to the BCC, follows the conclusion of the initial deadline on 24 April. Officials from the BCC stated that the extension aims to encourage broader participation and provide an opportunity for a greater number of individuals and organisations to showcase their contributions.
Locally referred to as the 'Dhiveheenge Ufehdhuntherikamuge Qaumee Mauraz', the exhibition is slated to take place from 23 to 31 May. The initiative is being conducted under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, with the overarching goals of enhancing national productivity and promoting economic growth. The planning and execution of the event are being overseen by the BCC, which operates under the purview of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
Since the exhibition's website went live in November last year, the organisers have received applications from 256 participants, collectively showcasing 4,415 products. This was disclosed by the economic minister Mohamed Saeed during a previous announcement.
In a notable policy change, the BCC has lifted the restriction on the number of products a participant may exhibit. Previously, participants were limited to a maximum of 15 product categories. The revised policy now allows individuals and organisations to present an unlimited number of items, reflecting the organisers' commitment to providing "additional favourable opportunities" for contributors.
The BCC has also highlighted its plans to implement various initiatives during the event to support the growth of Maldivian artists and nurture their skills.
