Ensuring rightful recipients receive their flats remains a top priority – President Muizzu

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to handover of housing units to deserving recipients without revising the location designated in the respective housing schemes.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, the President said the complaints received over the revised list of 4,000 flats under the previous government’s ‘Gedhoruveriyaa’ housing scheme are being reviewed, he said.

The President assured that the government’s highest priority remains to handover these flats to the rightful recipients, adding that the handover will be completed soon.

President Dr Muizzu also insisted that no land or housing unit will be awarded unfairly during his Administration.

The former administration led by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) initiated the development of 4,000 flats in Hulhumale' under the Scheme. However, the project remained incomplete at the end of the term.

Ahead of the conclusion of then-President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s term, the government released a final list of flat recipients. However, after a case was filed regarding the list, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) revealed that only 20 percent of the listed recipients met eligibility criteria.

The discovery by the ACC had forced the current Administration to conduct a thorough review of the recipients list.
