Maldives 2.0 to Revolutionise Governance Though Digital Transformation

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the government’s ambitious ‘Maldives 2.0’ initiative to digitise government operations and services will revolutionise the system.

Speaking at a press conference held Saturday, the President announced that a major national conference would be held on 9 May, bringing together all government bodies, to commence the efforts.

The President emphasised that the most effective way to eliminate corruption within the state and establish a transparent system would be through the introduction of an automated, digitalised system. This will be a transparent system where information is recorded, and where every government activity and communication is circulated through a single network, he said.

In a post on X, the President described the Maldives 2.0 digital as the Maldives' biggest vision for its future. This system will build a digital-first Maldives for every citizen, every island, and every generation to come, he said, explaining that eight pillars will shape how the government builds, governs, protects rights, promotes transparency, and restores trust in public institutions.

Speaking about the upcoming conference scheduled for 9 May, the President said the national conference will bring together all government institutions in one place where they will pledge their commitment to the initiative. He said the three-year initiative will completely transform the government system.

The President said the primary purpose of this initiative is to prevent corruption, enhance transparency and accelerate works. The President also reflected on his visit to Estonia earlier this year, noting that the main purpose of the trip was to learn from Estonia’s success in digital governance.

The President asked the media to participate and cooperate in this transformative effort.
