Gov’t Covers Over 14,000 Households under 'Haalu Kihineh?' Programme

Government officials have visited and gathered information from over 14,000 households under its 'Haalu Kihineh?' programme thus far, the Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr Aishath Shiham has revealed.

The initiative launched in May last year involves visiting residents across all islands in the Maldives to assess their well-being, identify individuals in need, and provide necessary services.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Dr Aishath Shiham said one of key things identified by the programme is the lack of employment opportunities available.
The government is now working with employers and State-owned companies to overcome such challenges faced by the people in accessing employment opportunities.

According to the Minister, the programme has also shed light on the difficulties faced by single mothers, people with disabilities and the elderly. In addition, the government has launched a training programme for people entrusted with the care of such persons, she added.

The "Haalu Kihineh?" programme initially began in Hulhumale'. In alignment with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's vision of fostering a compassionate society, the programme aims to strengthen relationships and build trust between the government and the citizens.

The initiative involves visiting residents across all islands in the Maldives to assess their well-being, identify individuals in need, and provide necessary services.

The Ministry of Social and Family Development is working closely with public service institutions, relevant agencies, atoll councils, local island councils, and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), to conduct the programme. The goal is to visit every household in the Maldives within a year to identify individuals requiring special assistance from the state.
