The national telecommunications company, Dhiraagu Plc has made a significant contribution to children in state care through its "Donate on Dhiraagu App" programme.
According to Dhiraagu, a total of USD 14,940 has been raised and donated to children in state care through the Donate on Dhiraagu App initiative. This amount includes USD 9728 donated by Dhiraagu, along with public donations made via the Dhiraagu App during the month of Ramadan.
Dhiraagu’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed handed over the funds to the Ministry of Social and Family Development at a special ceremony held at Dhiraagu on Tuesday. The funds were received by the Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr Aishath Shiham.
The funds have been allocated to Fiyavathi, Amaan Veshi and Amaan Hiyaa. These children’s shelters are state-run shelters overseen by the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s Family and Children's Service Centres (FCSCs). Dhiraagu said the donation will support the Ministry's programmes aimed at promoting the health and development of children living under stare care.
Fiyavathi is a children’s shelter dedicated to children in Male’ region, while Amaan Veshi and Amaan Hiyaa care for children under state-care from other parts of the Maldives.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts under the theme of inclusion, Dhiraagu is committed to improving the lives of children. In addition to financial support, the company also provides high-speed internet connectivity to all state-run safe shelters across the Maldives, helping to meet the educational needs of children in care.
