Gov’t to Roll-Out First-Home Programme This Year

Government will roll-out its first-home programme this year, aimed at providing housing for people above 18 years of age, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced.

Sharing the government’s plans to address the longstanding housing shortage especially in the capital Male’ region, President Dr Muizzu told PSM News that one of the initiatives under the housing policy is to ensure housing for every citizen over the age of 18 who currently does not own a house.

The President insisted that this vital presidential pledge is designed to ensure that every Maldivian citizen over the age of 18 is a homeowner.

"We will provide housing for those who do not have a first home in Male’ or anywhere in the country. We will ensure that they get their own house or flat. We will handover the official document of ownership before the end of this year,” he said.

He also said that land or flats will be allocated for the applicants from ongoing land reclamation of several regions across the greater Male’ region, including Rasmale’, Gulhifalhu, Giraavaru Falhu and Uthuruthila Fahlhu.

President Dr Muizzu assured that his housing plan is not limited to the Male’ region, highlighting several ongoing housing projects throughout the country to provide much needed housing solutions for all corners of the Maldives.
