The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has conducted its second training programme aimed at raising awareness among the public on various issues related to the elections. The latest session was conducted in Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
According to ECM, the civic awareness programme was held to educate the public about the electoral process and the purpose of the elections. The commission also aims to familiarise the public with the democratic system and increase their participation in electoral matters.
The programme will cover a range of topics related to elections including the introduction and foundations of democracy, the three branches of government, rights, participation and nationalism. Information on responsibility and accountability, elections, how elections are conducted as well as the multi-party system will be shared with participants as part of the programme.
The programme was attended by representatives of various government institutions, companies, associations, political parties and the general public of Hanimaadhoo.
The ECM previously held a similar civic programme in May this year in Fonadhoo, Laamu Atoll.
