President Honours 94 Public Servants for More Than Four Decades of Service

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday conferred the National Award for Public Service upon 94 individuals, each recognised for more than 40 years of continuous service to the state. The ceremony, held in the morning at the Maldives Centre for Social Education, marked a central moment in the nation’s Independence Day celebrations.

The event served as a formal acknowledgement of the government’s commitment to recognising enduring public service. Each honouree was presented with a commemorative shield and badge, symbols of appreciation for their long-standing contributions and institutional dedication.

Established to honour individuals who have served the state for a minimum of 35 years, the National Award for Public Service reflects both the duration and quality of service. It recognises not only professional longevity but also the competence, integrity, and impact demonstrated throughout a recipient’s career.

While the award includes those with 35 to 39 years of service, the group recognised on Sunday had each surpassed four decades, a distinction that underscores their exceptional commitment to public duty. Those with service spanning 35 to 39 years are expected to be honoured at a separate ceremony scheduled for Republic Day.

Responsibility for vetting and selecting recipients rests with the National Awards Committee, which is tasked with ensuring transparency and rigour throughout the process. During Sunday’s ceremony, President Muizzu offered his congratulations and expressed deep appreciation to the awardees, commending their exemplary service and enduring contributions to the nation.
