MWSC Begins Construction of New Water Plant with Capacity to Produce 10,000 Tonnes of Water Per Day

The Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has commenced the practical work a building in Hulhumale’ designed to produce 10,000 tonnes of water per day.

The foundation concrete of the building was laid by ten long-serving employees who served the company for over 29 years, alongside the company’s Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed, Chairman Shamhooza Ahmed, and board members.

MWSC said it aims to complete the construction of the building before the end of September. Once completed, two Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, each capable of producing 5,000 tonnes of water per day, will be installed in the building, the company said.

The MWSC emphasised that the RO facility is a significant step towards enhancing water service reliability in Male’ and Hulhumale’. The objective is to provide uninterrupted, sustainable, and clean drinking water and safe sewerage services to all citizens, the company said.

Established in 1995, the MWSC is the main government-owned company providing water and sewerage services in the capital city. In addition to the Male’ area, the company also provides water and sewerage services to three islands and electricity to one island. The MWSC serves a population of approximately 200,000.

The company was originally established as a utility company focused solely on water and sewerage services. However, the company has expanded its expertise over the years to include engineering, trading and manufacturing. Today, MWSC designs, installs, and operates water and sewerage systems and fabricates its own water plants.
