The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has opened the opportunity to apply for scholarships to pursue higher education abroad in the field of fisheries. These opportunities are offered under a joint programme between the Government of Maldives and the World Bank.
As part of the collaboration under the Transforming Fisheries Management in South West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives (Transform) project, four opportunities for Master's degree programmes and three opportunities for Bachelor's degree are available.
Scholarship opportunities are open in the following fields:
-Master's Degree: Sustainable Aquaculture, Aquaculture Nutrition, Aquaculture Engineering, Aquatic Health, and Pathology
- Bachelor’s Degree: Microbiology, Agricultural Science, and Agriculture
The scholarships may be pursued in Asian countries, South West Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission (SWIOFC) member countries and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. The scholarships cover course fees, living expenses, and other allowances.
Applications must be submitted to the Project Management Unit of the Ministry before 12:00 noon on Thursday, 18 September.
The Ministry said these opportunities are essential to develop experienced professionals in the fisheries sector, noting that it is a key contributor to the Maldivian economy. The Ministry also emphasised the importance of improving the quality of education in this field.
