More than 300,000 tourists have spent their holidays in guesthouses so far this year, official tourism figures have shown.
According to the latest tourism statistics from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, Maldives has welcomed 1.4 million tourists to its shores which is a 9.1 percent increase from the 1.3 million during the same period last year.
Tourist resorts remain the preferred choice for holidaymakers, the figures showed with over one million guests. Guesthouses in second place have welcomed 309,490 tourists so far, followed by tourist hotels with 37,282 and safari vessels with 29,018.

Amid renewed government-led efforts to expand local tourism in the Maldives, the figures showed that there are currently 891 guesthouses operating in 20 Atolls across the country. The bed capacity of 15,284 in these tourist facilities is 24 percent of the total beds in the tourism sector.
The world renowned tourist destination in 2024, witnessed the highest number of tourist arrivals in a single year in its 52 year tourism history.
According to tourism figures, a total of 2,047,435 tourists had holidayed in the Maldives in 2024. This is a nine percent increase from the 1،878،543 tourists from 2023.
This marks the first time Maldives has welcomed two million tourists to its shores in a calendar year.
The government aims to improve tourism occupancy and bring in 2.3 million tourists this year.
