Land Handed Over for Two New Mosques in Hulhumalé Phase II

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has allocated two plots of land in Hulhumalé Phase II to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs for the construction of two new mosques.

The move is aimed at accommodating the rapidly growing population in the area.

An agreement for the land handover was signed on Tuesday at a ceremony attended by top officials from both sides. HDC Managing Director Brigadier General (Retired) Ali Zuhair signed on behalf of the corporation, while Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed represented the Ministry.

The new mosques are designed to significantly increase prayer capacity in Hulhumalé Phase II.

The first plot of land, located on Lot No. 22242 in Hulhumale Phase II, measures 20,720 square feet planned to accommodate 2,000 to 3,000 worshippers while the second mosque, situated on Lot No. 22221, will be built on a larger 27,920-square-foot plot and will also be able to hold 2,000 to 3,000 people.

The addition of these mosques will help serve the residents of Hulhumalé Phase II, which has seen a population increase due to recent housing projects, including the Hiyaa Flats. With the rising population, the need for more mosques has also grown.

These new mosques will add to the other mosques already overseen by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs across the greater Male’ region. The new construction will help meet the community's needs and support religious activities in the expanding district.
