Ambassador Al-Qahtani Frames Maldives Partnership as Brotherhood, Not Just Diplomacy

Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the Maldives, Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani, has described the bilateral relationship between the Kingdom and the Maldives as a “successful and visible model of cooperation”, pledging to deepen engagement across a spectrum of strategic sectors, including renewable energy and urban development.

The ambassador’s remarks were delivered during a ceremony in Malé marking the 95th National Day of Saudi Arabia. Addressing senior officials from the Maldivian government gathered at the Barceló Nasandhura Malé, he characterised the relationship as one that transcends conventional diplomacy, an Islamic bond of brotherhood anchored in mutual respect and trust.

Tracing the arc of diplomatic relations over the past 44 years, Ambassador Al-Qahtani affirmed that Saudi Arabia has consistently maintained close and unwavering ties with the Maldivian people. He attributed the strengthening of this partnership to the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, noting that shared priorities and mutual interests have underpinned efforts to reinforce bilateral ties.

This evolving relationship, he said, aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a national strategy aimed at diversifying the Kingdom’s economy and expanding its global partnerships. Within that framework, the ambassador expressed appreciation for the Maldivian government’s cooperation under President Muizzu, acknowledging its role in advancing the strategy’s objectives and fostering a resilient alliance.

Looking ahead, Ambassador Al-Qahtani outlined Saudi Arabia’s readiness to broaden cooperation across a wide array of fields, including urban development, healthcare, fisheries, agriculture, air transport, tourism, and education. He also pledged support for initiatives focused on youth development, renewable energy, and environmental protection. In addition, he reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to assisting the Maldives in preserving peace, safeguarding independence, and promoting national stability.

Concluding his remarks, the ambassador underscored that the relationship between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives is not merely diplomatic but founded on enduring brotherhood and trust. He expressed hope that, with divine grace, the partnership would continue to flourish, benefiting not only the citizens of both nations but also contributing to broader regional and global harmony.
