On Türkiye’s Republic Day, President Muizzu Reaffirms Strategic Ties and Global Cooperation

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his confidence in the continued expansion of Türkiye’s international partnerships, describing them as instrumental to advancing global peace and prosperity.

The statement was issued via social media on the occasion of Türkiye’s Republic Day. In his message, President Muizzu extended congratulations and best wishes to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as well as to the government and people of Türkiye.

“I wish for further socioeconomic advancements for the people of Türkiye and I trust Türkiye’s partnerships for peace and prosperity across the globe, including with the Maldives, will continue to be beneficial for all,” President Muizzu wrote.

Under President Muizzu’s leadership, diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Türkiye have deepened, marked by a series of high-level exchanges and strategic engagements. His official visit to Türkiye in November 2023 signalled a renewed commitment to bilateral cooperation.

Defence collaboration between the two nations was notably reinforced in August 2025, when the Türkiye Navy formally transferred the naval vessel ‘Dharumavantha’ to the Maldives National Defence Force. The gifting of the ship underscored the growing military ties and mutual trust between the governments.

Parliamentary and military exchanges continued to shape the relationship. In June 2025, a delegation from the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, comprising members of the Türkiye–Maldives Interparliamentary Friendship Group, visited the Maldives. That momentum was sustained in August with the arrival of Admiral Kadir Yıldız, Commander of the Türkiye Navy Fleet, further consolidating the defence and diplomatic rapport.
