Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan has called on the public to verify information before sharing it. He made the appeal during the “No Cap, Just Facts” campaign conducted by the Maldives National University (MNU)’s Bachelor of Arts in Media and Public Relations students.
The Minister highlighted how quickly false information spreads and the challenges faced in clarifying the truth, noting that such misinformation can unfairly ruin the reputations of innocent people. He stressed that it is everyone's responsibility to provide correct and accurate information, and that legal measures should be taken against those spreading misinformation. He also emphasised the need to integrate respect and responsibility into education to prevent misinformation.
A forum on distinguishing the difference between inadvertent and deliberate false information was held as part of the campaign. The event was attended by more than 100 people, including students from various schools and MNU courses. Panelists included experts from journalism, media, legal, and tech fields.
