Maldives to Hold Local Council, WDC Elections on 4 April

The Election Commission of Maldives has officially announced that the upcoming local council elections and Women's Development Committee elections will take place on 4 April next year.

These crucial elections will be held across 226 constituencies, determining the representatives for both local council members and Women's Development Committee (WDC) positions.

To facilitate the smooth operation of the polls, over 7,000 officials will be deployed to polling stations. Individuals keen on serving as election officials have a deadline of 3:00 pm on 21 December, to submit their applications through the e-pass system on the my.elections.gov portal.

In parallel, the ECM has also initiated the recruitment process for staff positions to support the 2026 local council and Women's Development Committee elections. Prospective candidates are invited to complete an application form and submit it via email to [email protected]. The available vacancies span various departments, including Human Resources, Administration, Media, Public Relations, Information Technology, Finance, and Legal.

Ahead of the elections, the ECM is embarking on a comprehensive public awareness campaign. Teams will be visiting 36 islands across 12 atolls throughout November and December to conduct educational sessions highlighting the significance of voting and the electoral process. These initiatives will be bolstered by the participation of independent institutions and private associations. The ECM also plans to leverage various media outlets to disseminate essential information and encourage voter engagement.
