The Maldives has officially handed over the USD 834,843.98 raised through the telethon organised by the Public Service Media (PSM) to raise funds for Sri Lanka in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah.
The funds were presented by Maldivian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Mas’ood Imad on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with 25,000 cases of canned tuna worth USD 1,232,166.02 donated by the Maldivian government.
The telethon, held in collaboration with 37 media outlets in the Maldives, ran from 29 November to 1 December, and received a significant response from citizens, government institutions, companies, clubs and associations. The funds were collected through a dedicated bank account and fund boxes placed across Male’ City, with the process overseen by independent audit firm, Crowe Maldives, to ensure transparency.
PSM stated that the secure handover of the telethon funds to Sri Lanka provides assurance to the public. The organisation expressed gratitude to the President and the government and all relevant authorities for their support.
