Foreign Minister Dr Khaleel Thanks Ambassador Hugo Yon for Strengthening Maldives–US Ties

Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel has conveyed the Government’s deep appreciation to outgoing US Ambassador Hugo Yon, acknowledging his leadership and contributions in deepening bilateral ties and expanding engagement as the first resident American ambassador to the Maldives.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Dr Khaleel conveyed the Government’s gratitude to Ambassador Yon for his invaluable contributions over the past two years. He noted that the Ambassador had played a pivotal role in strengthening relations between the Maldives and the United States. Minister Dr Khaleel also highlighted Ambassador Yon’s leadership as the first resident Ambassador of the United States to the Maldives, stating that his presence significantly enhanced the momentum and depth of bilateral engagement.

Ambassador Hugo Yon expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government and people of the Maldives for the warm hospitality and friendship extended to him throughout his tenure. He reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to further strengthening the close bilateral ties between the two countries.

Minister Dr Khaleel acknowledged the warmth and professionalism the Ambassador maintained throughout his service and expressed confidence that relations between the Maldives and the United States will continue to flourish under his successor. The Minister also extended his best wishes to Ambassador Yon in his future endeavours and assured the Government’s full support and cooperation to the incoming Ambassador.

Minister Dr Khaleel was accompanied at the meeting by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheryna Abdul Samad, Secretary Dr Hala Hameed, Senior Political Director Ahmed Haanee Naeem, and Assistant Director Aminath Warudha.
