Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer on Wednesday evening announced the selection of Faresmaathoda Island as the site for the 3rd airport to be developed in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

“Faresmaathoda was selected from among 3 islands, based on a survey report submitted by China’s Aero Space Science and Industry Team”, he said.

The Minister added that land will be reclaimed in the island to develop the airport and the design will be similar to the one which has already been published.

The airport in Feresmaathodaa will have a 150-feet wide 12,000-meter long runway.

“Development of the Faresmaathodaa airport will begin by the end of this month, the Tourism Minister added.
