Minister urges islands to emulate Thulhaadhoo-Meedhoo bond, stresses heritage and unity

The enduring bond between Thulhaadhoo, Baa Atoll and Meedhoo, Raa Atoll should serve as a model for inter-island relations, Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim has urged during the National Unity Day celebrations in Thulhaadhoo.

Speaking at a banquet honouring Meedhoo residents, the Minister emphasised the significance of preserving cultural heritage, citing a historic building constructed by Meedhoo in Thulhaadhoo as a symbol of their shared past.

"Heritage speaks for itself—it carries the dreams and sacrifices of our ancestors," he said, underscoring President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s policies to revive national culture and unity.

The event also marked the signing of a landmark agreement between the two island councils, formalising the exchange of knowledge, arts, and sports expertise. Thulhaadhoo, renowned for its lacquer work tradition, and Meedhoo, celebrated for its carpentry and housing craftsmanship, pledged to strengthen their generational friendship through collaboration.

Minister Adam Naseer hailed the President’s nationalism project as key to fostering unity, urging other islands to follow Thulhaadhoo and Meedhoo’s example.

"Progress lies in unity, and our heritage is what binds us as one nation,” he said.

A commemorative plaque was exchanged between the councils, symbolising their commitment to preserving this unique partnership for future generations.
