Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has announced an ambitious plan to transform healthcare access across the Maldives, with a series of major projects set for launch next year.
Speaking during the anniversary special program of national radio ‘Dhivehiraajjeyge Adu’, Minister Nazim revealed that next year’s state budget allocates a significant portion to the health sector, prioritising the expansion and enhancement of services in provincial areas.
A cornerstone of the initiative includes upgrading regional hospitals, attracting more doctors and medical specialists, and strengthening healthcare infrastructure to treat a broader range of diseases locally.
The Minister emphasised that efforts will also target improving the quality of healthcare in small-populated islands by upgrading health centres and introducing new services.
"2026 will be a year of positive change in healthcare," Nazim stated, underscoring that these developments align with the government’s manifesto and long-term vision.
He added that the core objective is to improve public well-being by making quality healthcare more accessible, ultimately building a healthier, more resilient society.
