Training election officials is vital to protect voters’ and candidates’ rights, Vice President of the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM), Abdul Rahman Salih Rasheed has stated.
He made the statement at an event held to conclude a training programme for election officials trainers ahead of the local council elections and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.
Speaking at the event, Salih said the programme will strengthen the election process and ensure officials have accurate knowledge of procedures. He said trainers are responsible for correctly conveying information to voters and candidates, helping prevent rights violations and the spread of misinformation.
Salih also noted that local council elections are the largest and most time-consuming, with approximately 300,000 voters and complex ballot procedures.
Over 100 trainers were trained in the programme held from 3 January to 9 January. Those trained under the programme will go on to train election officials across the country.
