Economic Ministry condemns “baseless” allegations against Gov’t.

Economic Ministry on Thursday strongly condemned allegations made against the Government describing them as attempts to diminish investor confidence in the country.

In a statement, the Ministry said “these baseless allegations are aimed at reducing investor confidence at a time of growing interest on the part of the local and foreign businesses to invest in the Maldives.”

“We strongly condemn all actions to bring the Maldives to disrepute with false information and the continuing efforts to destabilise the Maldivian economy,” it added.

The statement further said “the Maldives has embarked and is in the midst of successfully implementing a very ambitious plan to transform its economy and infrastructure.”

“Various measures introduced by the government, over the past three years, have boosted foreign investment inflows and have generated new economic activities, creating new employment opportunities for our youth,” the statement read.

The Ministry also said “the recently published Moody’s credit ratings of Maldives place our development outlook on stable grounds, giving added confidence to the government on its current economic agenda. The country’s economic fundamentals remain strong and the Maldives economy continues to follow a positive development trajectory.”

The statement concluded saying that “the Government’s investment policy remains liberal and will continue to follow international best practices, and reassured the public and the investor community that there are robust systems and mechanism to support businesses and investments.”
