Maldives marks World Quran Hour for first time

Muslims across the globe on Sunday marked the World Quran Hour congregating in mosques and other locations to recite from the Holy Quran en masse for one hour. Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), for the first time in the country, marked the World Quran Hour in the Maldives.

This World Quran Hour campaign is an initiative undertaken to unite the Muslim ummah and encourage Muslims to read the Holy Quran and incorporate the practice in their daily routines.It is also marked to unite with the Muslims who gathered at the Plain of Arafat.

Launched in Saudi Arabia as part of the start of the Hajj, the event was well received as millions of Muslims from all walks of life partook in the international effort. The event held at IUM was led by Chancellor Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, IUM Council Member Dr. Mohamed Ali, Lecturer Sheikh Abdul Aziz Hussein and Deputy Vice Chancellor Hawwa Latheefa.

According to the university, the event was held across the globe including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Brunei, Turkey, Malaysia, United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Singapore and some other Muslim minority countries.
