First lady attends Girl Guides Association’s Annual General Meeting

The First Lady of the Maldives, Saajidha Mohamed and Chief Guide was in attendance for the 2025 Annual General Meeting of the Maldives Girl Guides Association.

The ceremony was held at Mookai hotel, during which the First Lady and Niumath Shafeeq, the Asia Pacific Regional Committee Chair of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) was given a Guard of Honour.

During the ceremony, the meeting minutes of the 2024 annual ceremony were approved, with the 2025 Annual Report and financial statements presented. Furthermore, Niumath, Chair of the Asia Pacific Regional Committee of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts was awarded a Token of Appreciation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Niumath Shafeeq stated that girl guides and leaders are always ready to help the society. She emphasised the importance of establishing girl guide activities in every school in the Maldives, adding that the goal is to make this achievable in the future.

“Its important to include ordinary citizens in this work and create people who can guide these activities in the future.” Niumath stated.

The Girl Guides Association highlighted the activities carried out and achievements received in 2025 as part of the gathering. The financial reports from last year show that the revenue was mainly generated through selling uniforms for different branches, as well as via other fees.

The association has received USD 32,347.44 through government assistance, USD 11,450.99 through private investors and USD 323.47 from other sources. Majority of the expenditures were for activities held within the Maldives and abroad. In this regard, eight activities were held for a fee, generating USD 122,914.64.

Established in 1948, the Maldives Girl Guides Association works to empower women and girls, spanning over 14,000 children from 88 schools nationwide taking part in such activities.
