In response to a growing shortage of MVR 20 banknotes in circulation, the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has printed and brought a new stock of MVR20 notes under the "Ran Dhihafaheh" series.
MMA in a statement said that a new stock of the MVR20 banknotes have been brought to the Maldives on the 15 February. This follows a recent intervention by MMA following a shortage of MVR100 banknotes, after which a new stock was brought earlier in the month.
The "Ran Dhihafaheh" note series, first launched in January 2016, represents a modern evolution in the country’s currency design, emphasising durability, portability, and enhanced security.
Among its advanced anti-counterfeiting features, the new MVR20 note includes a serial number and face value denomination that become visible only under ultraviolet light—imperceptible under normal lighting conditions.
The Ran Dhihafaheh note series is based on the theme "Maldives and the Maldivian people." The different illustrations depict the country's unique natural beauty, and the culture and craftsmanship of the Maldivians.
