Practical work commences on upgrading and conversion of the old sewerage system in the populated area along with the installation of water and sewerage systems in the newly reclaimed area of Maafushi, Kaafu Atoll.
Speaking at a special ceremony was held in Maafushi to mark the beginning of this endeavor, The Minister of Housing, Construction and Infrastructure said that both these projects are of immense significance to the local community.
The work on the replacement of the old sewerage system includes installation of a sewerage pumping station, junction and integration of a sewerage outflow and other installation related works. The project is valued at USD 3,717,039.54.
The work on the newly reclaimed area for which installation of water and sewerage systems is scheduled includes the installation of two Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, each with a capacity of 1,500 tonnes. The installation of two 3,500-tonne water tanks are also included. The scope further extends to installation of water meters and outflow. The Project is valued at USD 8,329,525.85.
Both these projects are being carried out Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC). The project is expected to be completed within 571 days.
