A new power plant has been officially inaugurated in Kendhoo, Baa Atoll.
The facility was inaugurated at a special ceremony by the Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Limited, Major (Retd) Mohamed Najah.
The project was awarded by the government to Fenaka Corporation to strengthen electricity services in Kendhoo. It was subsequently subcontracted to Sea Side Private Limited on 11 July 2021. The project experienced significant delays due to land acquisition issues and the preparation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Construction work commenced in late 2022.
The completion deadline was extended multiple times at the contractor’s request. The initial deadline was revised to 31 May 2023, followed by a further six-month extension, with two additional extensions granted thereafter.
Once fully operational, the new power plant is expected to provide reliable and sustainable electricity to residents of Kendhoo.
