The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has issued a travel advisory urging local Umrah pilgrims and those currently in Mecca, Saudi Arabia to remain vigilant due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The Ministry in a statement, emphasised the importance of increased awareness in travel arrangements and reassured pilgrims that their safety remains a top priority.
According to official figures, a total of 1,624 locals are scheduled to perform Umrah during Ramadan under the coordination of 20 licensed Umrah companies. Additionally, 530 pilgrims have traveled under the state-owned Maldives Hajj Corporation. Given the volatile regional situation, the Ministry has advised all travelers to exercise caution and adhere to guidelines issued by Saudi authorities.
The Ministry highlighted the need for pilgrims to take necessary precautions, including monitoring travel updates and staying in close contact with their respective Umrah operators. Pilgrims were also urged to report any emergencies or extreme incidents via designated hotlines— +966506894477 and +966530838329.
To further assist pilgrims, the Ministry announced the imminent establishment of a dedicated information hotline for real-time updates on travel advisories and security measures. Authorities are also closely monitoring the situation of Maldivian pilgrims already in Mecca, ensuring their well-being amid the unrest, the Ministry added.
