President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the congress of the People’s National Congress (PNC) is scheduled to be held in October this year.
He made the remarks while speaking at a PNC event held at Artificial Beach in Malé.
Addressing party members, President Muizzu said the PNC will continue to operate as a united team that prioritises the interests of the people. He added that the party remains firmly committed to strengthening the multi-party system and promoting democratic values.
The President said the party’s leadership has now decided to convene the PNC congress in October, describing it as an important opportunity for members seeking to advance within the party’s political structure.
“This congress will be conducted in a very fair manner. It will be a comprehensive and well-organised congress. As always, this party will carry out its work in a structured and orderly way,” President Muizzu said.
He also highlighted the party’s rapid growth since its formation, noting that the PNC began its activities in November 2023 with around 3,000 members.
According to the President, party membership has since increased significantly, reaching approximately 75,000 members. He added that the party aims to further expand its membership to more than 100,000 in the future.
