The practical work on the construction of the Veyvah ice plant has commenced.
The project is being implemented by the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), as part of efforts by the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources to facilitate easy access to ice for local fishermen.
The project agreement was signed on 27 September last year and is scheduled to be completed within 240 days. Equipment has been delivered to the site, and foundation work for the building is currently underway.
The plant will produce 60 tonnes of flake ice per day. It will also include a 100-tonne ice storage facility. The plant is expected to improve ice availability for fishermen in the area and support fishing operations.
